Iphigenia

Volute krater (wine-mixing vessel), 370 - 355 B.C.

Before the campaign against Troja Iphigenia, Agamemnons daughter, has to be sacrificed to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, because Agamemnon hunted a hind that belonged to Artemis. Agamemnon is ready to kill his daughter with a long knife. In this moment the goddess changes the girl with a hind and abducts Iphigenia to Tauris.
